Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Introduction

QueerSailing respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the QueerSailing website, why we collect it, how it is used, and the choices available to you.

By creating an account or using QueerSailing, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information.

Account information

When you register for a QueerSailing account, we may collect information such as:

  • your username;
  • your email address;
  • your password, which is stored securely and not visible to QueerSailing administrators in plain text;
  • information you choose to include in your profile.

Profile information

You may choose to provide additional information for your public profile, including text, photographs and other information about yourself.

Please remember that information included in a public profile may be visible to other visitors and users of QueerSailing.

Do not include personal information in your public profile that you do not wish to make publicly available.

Messages

QueerSailing allows registered users to send private messages to other users.

Messages are stored in order to provide the private messaging service and are intended to be visible only to the participants in the relevant conversation. QueerSailing administrators do not have access to the content of private messages.

Users are solely responsible for the content of any messages they send or receive. QueerSailing and its administrators are not responsible or liable for the content, accuracy, legality, conduct or consequences of communications between users.

If you receive a message that you believe violates these Terms or is otherwise inappropriate, please contact us using the contact form on the Contact page.

If you delete a conversation from your account, this may remove it from your own view without necessarily deleting the other participant’s copy.

Messages associated with deleted accounts may remain in an existing conversation where necessary to preserve the conversation for the remaining participant, but the deleted account will no longer be presented as an active user.

Ads

If you post an ad, we collect the information and images you provide in connection with that ad.

Ads are publicly visible.

Reports and moderation information

If you report another user or content, we collect the information you provide in the report so that we can review and, where appropriate, take action.

We reserve the right to remove or modify content, or suspend or terminate an account, where we reasonably believe that it violates these Terms or may harm QueerSailing or its users.

5. Public Profiles

Profiles on QueerSailing may be publicly visible.

You should therefore only include information and photographs that you are comfortable making publicly available.

Although we take reasonable measures to protect private account information, you are responsible for the information you choose to publish.

9. No Responsibility for User Interactions

QueerSailing does not conduct background checks or guarantee the identity or intentions of users.

You are responsible for exercising appropriate caution when communicating with, meeting or entering into arrangements with another user.

If you choose to meet another person, purchase or sell something, join a sailing trip or otherwise interact outside the website, you do so entirely at your own risk.

10. Safety

You should never feel pressured to provide personal information, send money or meet someone.

Be particularly cautious if another user:

  • asks for money;
  • requests sensitive personal or financial information;
  • pressures you to move communication elsewhere;
  • behaves in a threatening or manipulative manner.

If you believe another user is behaving inappropriately, you can block and/or report them through QueerSailing.

Where there is an immediate risk to your safety or the safety of another person, you should contact the appropriate emergency services.

11. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of the content you upload to QueerSailing.

By uploading content, you grant QueerSailing a non-exclusive licence to store, process, reproduce and display that content to the extent necessary to operate and provide the service.
