About QueerSailing
What is QueerSailing?
QueerSailing is a community for gay, lesbian and LGBTQ+ people who share a love of sailing, boating and life on the water. You can create a profile, connect with other members, send private messages and post or browse sailing-related ads.
Do I need an account to use QueerSailing?
You can browse public profiles and ads without an account. However, you need to register and log in to contact other members, add people to your favourites, post ads and manage your own profile.
Is registration free?
Yes. Creating a QueerSailing account is free.
My Profile
How do I create or edit my profile?
After registering and logging in, you can manage your profile from your account area. You can add or change your information and upload profile photos.
Are profiles public?
Yes. QueerSailing profiles are publicly visible, so please do not include information that you do not want other people to see.
Private account information, such as your email address, is not displayed on your public profile.
Can I add photos to my profile?
Yes. You can upload photos to your profile. Profile photos may be subject to moderation before they become publicly visible.
How do I delete a profile photo?
You can manage and remove your photos from your profile or account area.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. You can permanently delete your account from your account area.
Deleting your account also removes your profile and associated profile information from QueerSailing. Your profile photos are deleted as part of the account deletion process.
Messages
How do I send someone a message?
When you are logged in, visit another member’s profile and click Send Message.
Can everyone send me a message?
Registered users can contact other members unless you have blocked them or they have blocked you.
What happens when I send a message?
Your message appears in your conversation with that member. The recipient may also receive an email notification letting them know that they have received a new message.
Why can’t I send a message to a particular user?
You may not be able to send a message if that user has blocked you, or if you have blocked them.
Can I block another user?
Yes. If you do not want to receive messages from someone, you can block them from their profile.
Blocked users can still have a public profile, but they cannot send you messages.
Can I unblock someone?
Yes. You can manage blocked users from your account area and unblock them at any time.
Can I delete conversations?
Yes. You can delete conversations from your own message area.
Deleting a conversation removes it from your view. It does not automatically delete the other person’s copy of the conversation.
What happens to messages if someone deletes their account?
Messages previously sent by a deleted account may remain visible in existing conversations, but the sender will be shown as a deleted user rather than as an active profile.
Favourites
How do I add someone to my favourites?
When you are logged in, visit a member’s profile and click Add to favourites.
Can I remove someone from my favourites?
Yes. Return to the member’s profile and click Remove from favourites.
Reporting and Safety
How do I report a user?
If you believe that a profile or user violates the site’s rules, visit their profile and click Report user.
You will be asked to select a reason for your report. If you select Other, please provide a short explanation.
What happens after I report someone?
Your report is sent to the QueerSailing administrator for review. Appropriate action may be taken if the report identifies a violation of the site’s rules.
Will the reported user know that I reported them?
Reports are handled privately. The reported user is not automatically informed about who submitted a report.
What should I do if someone is bothering me?
You can block the user to prevent further messages and, if appropriate, report them to QueerSailing.
Ads
Can I post an ad?
Yes. Registered and logged-in users can post a free ad.
What can I advertise?
Ads should be relevant to the QueerSailing community and may include sailing-related opportunities, boats, equipment, crewing opportunities, events or other appropriate subjects.
How do I post an ad?
Go to My Ads and click Post a free ad.
Can I add photos to my ad?
Yes. You can upload images when creating or editing an ad.
Can I edit or delete my ad?
Yes. Go to My Ads, where you can manage your existing ads, edit them or permanently delete them.
Why isn’t my ad visible yet?
Ads may require approval before becoming publicly visible. If your ad is still pending, it will not yet appear in the public listings.
Login and Passwords
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Go to the Lost Password page and enter your username or email address. If an account matching the information exists, you will receive a password reset email.
Why does the password reset page always show the same confirmation message?
For security reasons, QueerSailing does not reveal whether a particular username or email address is registered. The same confirmation message is shown whether or not an account exists.
I requested a password reset but haven’t received the email.
First, check your spam or junk folder. Also make sure that you entered the correct email address.
If you still do not receive the email, please contact us for assistance.
Will I be logged out automatically?
For security, your QueerSailing session expires after 60 minutes of inactivity. Any normal activity on the site resets the inactivity timer.
You will need to log in again after your session expires.
Privacy
Is my email address visible on my public profile?
No. Your email address and other private account information are not displayed publicly on your profile.
Can other users see my private messages?
No. Private messages are only available to the participants in the conversation.
What happens to my photos if I delete my account or ad?
Images associated with deleted profiles or deleted ads are removed from QueerSailing along with the corresponding content.
How can I contact QueerSailing?
You can contact us through the contact details provided on the website.
